Just a Slight Detour

I'll get pictures posted with this eventually, I just don't have anything quite fitting just yet....

So I didn't get into the animation department, but it's definitely not the end of the world.  At first I was a little bummed when everyone's status was changed to animation online and mine stayed the same old, pathetic studio status (which, in all honesty still hasn't even changed to pre-animation after about seven requests to my counselor to change it, but what else can you do right?)  Then again, maybe my route y is just a glitch...

Hopefully I'll be able to get that sorted out once I go ahead and try to transfer over to the illustration department, but anyway, that's besides the point.

The real point is that the more I think about it, the more I realize that this is probably a huge blessing.  If I had gotten in, I think I could have run the risk of slacking off during the summer and not trying as hard as I have been up until my application.  I might have slowed down and missed out on so much growth if I had been accepted into the program, but because I didn't get in, I'm going to spend my summer putting ten times as much effort as before while everyone else sighs in relief with their acceptance letters.  I know I'm nowhere near the level where I want to be, but maybe this rejection and this summer will help me to change all that and help me get one step closer to my goal.

All I need to remember is this:  It's just a detour, I still have one more chance to get off on the right exit, at least at BYU. That, and I'm still torn between this and illustration, so maybe this is a hint that I need to be elsewhere.  Regardless, there's something to be learned here, and I'll be pickled if I don't just figure out what that lesson is.  Besides, there are always other schools if needs be, even if they are more expensive.......

Also, I have never been so impatient about getting a rejection letter in my life.  Let's see if I don't at least get invited back to apply in the fall.  Keep your fingers crossed everybody.

  1. They're definitely crossed. Good thoughts; it's important to keep working hard. You'll get in.

  2. Eventually I hope. I really just can't let myself get frustrated is all, which in my case is much easier said than done. Ah well, I'm still just a freshman after all. I've got time.

  3. i don't even need to cross 'em.. if you keep up the super awesome work ethic, re-re-revising your animations and stuff, i'm sure you'll get in.

  4. I'm surprised that you didn't get in, but like you said you haven't actually received the letter. (Good 'ol slow as dirt Provo mail.)

You have very strong character designs and overall use of shape. No matter what you remain a very talented artist.

  5. Very slow as dirt. Took a whole week for the letter to get here, but at least I've been invited to apply again. That should be a good sign, right? :)

  7. So true. Makes we wish we had a special mail service like the one that goes to the MTC.

    Missionaries get all the perks.
